I used Stellar yarn in the colourway Garnet from Bendigo Woollen Mills. Bamboo and wool are a match made in heaven. It's so smooth and silky to knit with and nice and warm at a bulky weight.
When I was growing up the mother/daughter relationship was tough especially the teenage years. I had to break down cultural and language barriers. Living in a trillingual family with three different religions had it's hurdles. Food made from scratch and handmade things however have always bypassed any misunderstandings. It is one language we all understand: It tells the recipient that they are loved.
How will you celebrate Mother's Day this year?

The wrap you have knitted is absolutely beautiful and I am sure your mother will love getting that in her letter box I know I would:):)
ReplyDeleteThanks Catherine. There's a sense of accomplishment when one finishes a project but then a niggling doubt of will the recipient like it.
DeleteThis is such a lovely shawl you have knitted. I love the color and the edging. Wishing you a Happy Mother's Day :)
ReplyDeleteThe edging makes it a bit fancier doesn't it as the pattern is quite simple. I hope to make something a bit fancier like the one you are working on next time. Happy Mother's Day to you too.
DeleteWhat a beautiful shawl, it looks so cosy to drape round your shoulders. A lovely gift to give :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words.
DeleteBeautiful! I love the border! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Melody. I did not block the shawl because I need to send it off in the post before Mother's Day.
DeleteLove this Zena. That's so wonderful that 1/ you made that for your mum and 2/ that's a rockin' gift to receive! I'm working on a shawl at the moment, have been for about 18 months and bloody hell the thing is never finished. Why? I've completely lost interest, and what made me think I wanted a plain black shawl in the first place, I'm really not sure. Widow chic?...But yours is gorgeous :-)
ReplyDeleteHaha! I realised after a few projects that dark yarn is so hard to work with at night and this is when most mamas have time to sit down after sending the kids off to sleep.
Deletebeautiful shawl and I love the way you photographed it. I'm still not sure how I'm celebrating Mother's day yet, both kids are out of town and so that leaves my husband. Probably we will eat out but maybe not on that day!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen. I'm still re-learning how to use my camera but each time I take a photo I realise how to take a better one next time. Make sure you do something special, Mother's Day only happens once a year:)
DeleteGreat shawl - Bubby will love it! Even thought knit purl is a universal language, I'm sure I'd still get into with my now deceased Ashkenazi grandma about throwing my yarn, since she knit contentinental. Great gift!
ReplyDeleteThank you Wendy. Yes my mum knits continental too!
DeleteGorgeous wrap - your mum must have loved it! Stella is a lovely yarn to knit with. I will have to check out this pattern as it looks like a perfect simple knit.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jayne. Mum called yesterday and said she loved it and the size was perfect.
